It really makes me glad to be alive when I get releases like this in the post. Up until a few months ago I never thought the indie music scene would return to it’s glory days of the 90’s but bands like Tigers Jaw really restore that faith in me.
I had a listen to the tracks they had on their myspace but they didn’t really grab me at the time, but sitting down and listening to the record really makes a difference (probably due to these crappy pc speakers!).
The band play (what is now) typical indie rock in the vein of early deep elm with a hint of artists such Buffalo Tom, not that there’s anything wrong with that at all. Like I’ve said before, it’s quite refreshing to hear bands acknowledging this kind of music again.
The highlight of the 7″ for me is the slow burner “Crystal Vision” (listen to it below) with it’s arpeggiated riffs and beautifully lo-fi vocals that seem to hit home without much effort at all.
The most wonderful thing about this 7″ though is it’s packaging. It comes in a translucent sleeve with the title and track list on with the artwork itself underneath. It’s worth a buy for that alone.
If you enjoy artists such as The Promise Ring, Superchunk, Everyone Everywhere etc then this record is for you.
Tigers Jaw also have an album available from Run For Cover Records(cd) or Photobooth Records(vinyl).
The 7″ itself is available from Tiny Engines
(Myspace)
