The 12 songs contained within “Goodbye God” are somewhat of a musical journey through the genre that is pop and it’s sub genres, each track on the album is in someway different from the last yet still poppy as hell. Sebastian’s ability to take each genre and put a pop spin on each whilst still making music that identifiable as the same band is commendable. It’s hard to think that it’s the same artist performing The Pendulum as it is The Laundrolux, and that’s the thing, Sebastian wrote and performed everything on the album, which is one mighty accomplishment.

After a bit of a false start with Please Proceed, “Goodbye God” kicks into full swing with the pop trio of I Get Around (a 50′s rock and roll number that sounds like it’s come straight out of the enchantment under the sea dance), Days of Thunder and The Pendulum. All 3 tracks being very synthesizer heavy and quite frantic (especially The Pendulum), which might deter some, but due to the amount of variety contained on the disc it’s going to be hard to please everyone.
It’s on the more down tempo tracks though that “Goodbye God” really finds it’s feet, such as “It’s a Miracle” and the minimal nerd rock of Lefty Lucy, the former recalling “Grand Prix” era Teenage Fanclub at it’s best.

Sebastian has also managed to avoid all the pitfalls of over doing things on “Goodbye God”, there are moments that had me on the edge of my seat just waiting for things to take a turn for the worst and become cringeworthy and over the top. Thankfully those moments didn’t occur, even with the tongue in cheek Rock Dreams, a cheeky nod to Neil Young’s classic Hey Hey, My My, complete with a lyrical reprise.

It’s hard to put my finger on what exactly makes this album so great, maybe it’s because parts remind me of the massively underrated Lowgold, all I know is that Sebastian has created a hell of a fun album from start to finish.

It’s a Miracle
