Everyone Everywhere Art hi_res

The only thing I can say about Everyone Everywhere’s latest release is FUN.
The band’s follow up to last year’s demo “Pants” continues in very much the same vein, containing 4 slices of near perfect indie joy. Only this time they’ve gone into full pop overdrive.

I first heard the 7″ a few months ago when a friend played it me after a random purchase from SNCL. Unfortunately I was rather drunk so despite enjoying the record, I managed to completely forget the band’s name. Since then I’ve listened to the 7″ religiously on many walks to work and has subsequently made the days that followed much more bearable.

To be honest you could easily mistake the 4 songs on this 7″ as out takes from the “Nothing Feels Good” sessions by The Promise Ring, but if you ask me that’s too much of generalization, the record needs much more respect than that.

The moment that the main chords of “Everyhow Everythere” kick in, you feel a warm and tingly sensation, something I find lacking in a lot of music I listen to lately but when a record does, it goes straight down your spine. It doesn’t stop there though as the sensation continues with the poppy staccato rhythms, guitar swells and random samples occurring in the background.

Just as you think the band have gone in a more twiddly direction with the acoustic intro of “Cool Pool Keg Toss Pete”, Bam!, the main riff kicks in and the record gets back to it’s rocking out. Lyrically this is the probably the most uplifting track on the 7″, a lovely ditty about friends and partying.

“We’re Going Home” reminds me mostly of early day Harvey Danger with the fuzzy guitar riff that opens the shortest track on the 7″ sounding like it could easily sit at home on “Where Have All The Merry Makers Gone?” . This coupled with gang shouts of “We’re Going Home” and the choppy guitar you’ve become accustomed to over the course of the record makes the song a fitting ending to the short yet sweet 11 minute experience.

In all seriousness this band could tell me I was dying and I’d still have a grin on my face.

The record was put out by Evil Weevil Records (also releasing the new Restorations 7″, but as far as I’m aware it is out of print and can only be obtained via iTunes.
